Hex Head Lag Screws Hot Dip Galvanized
- Although technically and functionally a Screw, they are often called “Lag Bolts” on the jobsite.
- A pre-drilled hole is recommended for installation, especially in hardwoods.
- No mechanical properties such as hardness, proof load, and tensile strength are required for Steel Lag Screws. They are only required to meet the chemical requirements of ASTM A307 Grade A.
- The minimum thread length specified shall be equal to one-half of the nominal screw length plus 0.50 inch, or 6 inches, whichever is shorter. Screws that are too short to meet this thread length formula shall be threaded as close to the head or shoulder as practicable.
- The dimensional standard specifies only a minimum thread length requirement for Lag Screws. Manufacturers are required to meet this minimum thread length specification but are not required to meet a maximum body length dimension. Therefore, Lag Screws cannot be considered nonconforming based solely on body length dimensions, provided the minimum thread length requirement is satisfied.
